SnipAI — Privacy Policy

What SnipAI does

SnipAI is a Chrome extension that lets you select a region of the current browser tab and sends a screenshot of that region to an AI vision model you choose — Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (GPT), or Google (Gemini) — which returns an answer to the question or problem shown in it.

Data the extension handles

• API keys. The API key you enter for your chosen AI provider is stored locally on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local. It is used only to authenticate your requests to that provider and is never transmitted anywhere else.
• Settings. Your selected provider, model name, and custom instructions are also stored locally in chrome.storage.local so you don't have to re-enter them. They never leave your device except as part of a request you initiate.
• Screenshots / web content. When you select a region and run an answer, the extension captures a screenshot of the visible area of your active tab, crops it to the region you chose, and sends that image to the AI provider you selected. Images are held only in memory for the duration of the request and are not stored by the extension.

Where your data goes

All requests go directly from your browser to the AI provider you choose. The extension has no backend server, and the developer never receives, stores, or has access to your keys, screenshots, instructions, or answers. There is no analytics, tracking, or advertising in this extension.

Whatever you send to a provider is then governed by that provider's own privacy policy:

• Anthropic (Claude): anthropic.com/legal/privacy

• Google (Gemini): policies.google.com/privacy

Permissions and why they're needed

• Host access (all sites) — to capture the visible tab so you can pick a region, and to send that image to your chosen provider's API. The extension does not read or modify page content.
• tabs — to capture the visible area of the active tab via chrome.tabs.captureVisibleTab.
• sidePanel — to show the extension's interface in a side panel.
• storage — to save your keys and settings locally on your device.

Data sharing and sale

The developer does not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party. The only transfer of data is the request you initiate to the AI provider you selected, which is necessary for the extension's single purpose.

Your control

You can clear all stored keys and settings at any time by removing the extension or clearing its storage in Chrome. Because nothing is stored off your device, removing the extension removes all data it held.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
